"What right do I have to be in the woods if the woods are not in me."

Laurie Anderson

"Lots of stories start with being lost in forests."

Fabula. Sound installation by Roberto Paci Dalò.

The artist gives a voice to centuries-old cypresses and linden trees through a multichannel sound system. Visitors become protagonists of the work by walking through it, immersing themselves in a forest transformed into an initiatory path where the plant world relates to the human, animal, and mineral worlds. Thus going beyond the very idea of species towards an interspecies sociality. In plant intelligence, the root corresponds to what the brain is in animals, and the soil, the subterranean reality, is a space for spiritual communication. Thanks to their roots, plants simultaneously inhabit two environments that are completely different in consistency and structure, organization, and the nature of the life inhabiting them: earth and sky.

Fabula is an alchemical fable dedicated to the memory of Roberto Masotti (1947-2022).

In his work, Roberto Paci Dalò investigates the relationships between art, science, and nature using drawing, sound, theatre, cinema, and radio art. He has received the esteem and support of artists such as Aleksandr Sokurov and John Cage. He presents his works in international museums, theatres, biennials, festivals, and foundations. Sala 20 of the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia houses his permanent work Ductus. For the Italian Ministry of Culture, he created the work Mappia in 2023, a large-scale illuminated leporello for the Appian Way's UNESCO World Heritage nomination. He teaches Exhibit and Experience Design at UNIRSM, where he founded and directs Usmaradio – Research Centre for Radio Art. One of his latest books is Ombre (Quodlibet, 2019).

For the Fondazione Mario & Maria Pia Serpone, this multisensory work marks the advent of a sonic and technological dimension to the park, a sound walk, created as part of the AMEN project to establish a digital arts network with DART - Chiostro del Bramante for the promotion of contemporary art and the enhancement of the Lazio region.
